When To Change Your Britax Duo Plus Isofix Car Seat

If you have invested in a Britax Duo Plus Isofix car seat, at some point you will have to change it, but when should you do it?

When you first choose your child’s car seat, it is a huge decision and one that you should take very seriously. This is even more important if you are buying second-hand that is always going to be a bit of a  risk. For one, you don’t know if the seat has already been involved in a major collision. If you know where the seat is coming from, it’s history and that every part is in good condition, make sure it is less than 6 years old as this is really the seat’s lifespan.

So which groups do the seats fall under? According to the ECE R 44 regulations you need a rear facing seat until the child is between 10 and 13 kg. Keeping as close to the 13 kg as possible or until the baby’s head is higher than the seat structures.

* From birth to 9 months or 10kg you will need Group 0

* From birth to 15 months or 13kg you will need Group 0+

* From 8 months to 3-1/2 years or 9-18kg you will need Group 1

* From 3 to 7 years or 15-25kg you will need Group 2

* From 6 to 12 years or 22-36kg you will need Group 3.

As no child is the same, some will reach the weight limit before they reach the age limit. In which case, for example, they should change from a Group 1 to Group 2-3 seat when the weight limit is exceeded, or their eye-line is higher than the highest point of the seat.

Finally, the Britax Duo Plus Isofix car seats are in Group 1 and come with a Which Best Buy 2009 recommendation as well as a lot of other recommendations.
